Ford Fusion Hybrid at Lakewood Fordland!
The Fusion Hybrid’s EPA-estimated gas mileage leaves our foreign competition at a loss for words. It can go over 700 miles between fillups, which for the average commuter translates into a stop at the pump once a month.* And our standard I-4 engine gets 34 mpg highway, the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid mid-size sedan on the road. Either way, driving a Fusion makes a statement. You care about the environment.
The 2012 Fusion, which can operate in all-electric mode at a cruising speed of up to 47 mph. The Ford Fusion Hybrid is capable of an average fuel economy rating that's 5 mpg better than that of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, putting mileage at nearly 40 mpg. The Hybrid is powered by a 2.5L Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor of unspecified output. Ford has reduced battery size and weight and has incorporated a simplified cooling system that doesn't require an extra air-conditioning system as in previous models.
A Variable Voltage Controller (VVC) is also incorporated to uncouple battery voltage from the electric motor for greater efficiency, while also able to boost electric motor output by 130% and generator output by 160%. The number of start/stop activations for the gas engine has been doubled, and up to 94% of braking energy is recaptured. Ford estimates the Fusion Hybrid is capable of a 700-mile city range when the gas engine and electric motor are both utilized.
The 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid also features instrumentation that Ford dubs the SmartGauge. This display features a central analog speedometer with digital displays to either side that read fuel economy, battery charge,
accessory power consumption, battery output, and how much power is being put to the wheels. Fully customizable with regard to what information the driver wants displayed, the SmartGauge will better enable the driver to conserve the vehicle's energy and achieve optimal fuel-efficiency regardless of conditions. Summaries of previous trips can be recalled, showing average fuel consumption and mileage, and a chart can display past driving trends to aid in getting better mileage.
